Nintendo Direct June 2024: Major Announcements
Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and More!
Today marks another Nintendo Direct come and gone and, with the impending announcement of the successor to the Nintendo Switch, most likely the last one dedicated solely to the hybrid console.
With that being said, let’s jump right into some of the big announcements.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership
Available: 11/7/24
One of the first big announcements came with the reveal of an all new entry in the Mario & Luigi series. These games are something that I have had a fondness for ever since I played Bowser’s Inside Story on my Nintendo DS. So to hear that a new game is coming, and a gorgeous one at that, is wonderful and provided a great start to the presentation.
Super Mario Party Jamboree
Available: 10/17/24
Nothing brings more enjoyment and shatter friendships like a good Mario Party game and this one looks to be no different. Promising the biggest mini-game yet, along with addional modes such as the 20 player Koopathlon mode, Super Mario Party Jamboree looks to be a great game to pick up.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Available: 9/26/24
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is an interesting one. Rather than traversing the world as Link, this time around you find yourself playing as the titular character, Princess Zelda herself. Of course, what I really enjoyed was the concept of echoes. Instead of Link’s traditional swordplay, Zelda uses magic to create echoes of objects in the world to solve puzzles and navigate through the world. Personally, this is one game I am looking forward to picking up this game when it releases in September.
Metroid Prime 4
Available: 2025
It almost doesn’t feel real. Seven years. It’s been seven years since the Metroid Prime 4 was initially announced to be in development. And since then hadn’t been much really spoken of or even shown off of the title. But that changed for at the end of the Direct, we were given the first look at the game and I must say, it’s looking pretty good. It looks like much of what I would want and expect out of a new title in the series and I am really excited to finally get to play it when it releases in 2025.
So what else was shown off?
This November, we’re going to be getting an HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III with the first two games coming later in 2025. As well we are getting the Ace Attorney Investigations and Stray is finally making its way to the Switch. On the NSO side, four new titles are coming to the service today: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Four Swords, Metroid: Zero Mission, Perfect Dark, and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter.
Honestly, this was a great presentation. A lot of big games, almost too many to name, coming to Switch to finish off 2024 and start off the next year. To be honest, I cannot express my excitement enough for these upcoming releases.
